Have you received a Test Alert notification on your iPhone and you don’t know what it is? In iOS 17.2 Apple has added a new feature that allows you to enable or disable these Emergency Alerts.

Apple has added a feature to improve the reliability of Emergency Alerts. With this feature your mobile will receive emergency alerts from the government and public safety authorities.

Depending on your location you will receive these emergency alerts on your iPhone. Your iPhone might display the following alerts:

  • Alerts issued by your country or region’s government
  • Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life
  • Alerts for extreme weather conditions
  • AMBER alerts (America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response)
  • Public Safety Alerts

How do I get emergency alerts on my phone? These government alerts or we can say emergency alerts are turned on by default on your iPhone. You can disable these government alerts, but in some countries, you cannot turn them off.

Government alerts are turned on by default on iPhones. Such alerts are accompanied by a special sound similar to an alarm. In some countries, users cannot disable government alerts. To turn off these emergency alerts, go to Settings > Notifications at the bottom you will find emergency alerts.

Why does my phone not get emergency alerts? There are chances to receive these alerts whenever there is a weather warning or other vital notifications. Please note that we don’t recommend you to turn off these alerts because if you do, you might miss important government alerts.
